Emergency Room (Pronto Soccorso)
Go to the nearest hospital emergency room and ask for an urgent psychiatric consultation. Open 24/7.
CSM — local Mental Health Centre
The CSM of your ASL handles non-life-threatening urgent needs. For a first urgent visit you can often go directly during opening hours — a GP referral is not always required.
Guardia Medica (out-of-hours care)
For nights, weekends and public holidays when the CSM is closed, contact the local Continuità Assistenziale (Guardia Medica) service.
France — how to access urgent care
SAMU 15 · 112 · 114
Call 15 (SAMU) for an acute medical or psychiatric emergency, 112 (European number, works without a SIM), or 114 by SMS/fax if you cannot speak.
Psychiatric ER & CPOA
Hospital psychiatric emergency units (CH/CHU) handle acute crises. A CPOA (psychiatric reception & orientation centre, e.g. Hôpital Sainte-Anne in Paris) offers urgent assessment and orientation.
CMP & CAPS
The CMP (Centre Médico-Psychologique) is the free public outpatient service covered by Sécurité Sociale. CAPS centres provide short-term crisis reception without long hospitalisation.

Call 112 (single emergency number, valid across all Autonomous Communities) for any life-threatening emergency, or 061 (Urgencias Médicas) for medical emergencies in most regions.

General hospital emergency departments (Urgencias) have an on-call psychiatry service (guardia psiquiátrica) for acute crises.
CSM & crisis units
The CSM (Centro de Salud Mental) is the public outpatient reference service of each Autonomous Community. Unidades de Crisis / Hospitales de Día provide intensive short-term care.

Emergencies 911
Call 911 for any life-threatening emergency. You can ask for a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) or a Mobile Crisis Team trained to respond to mental-health emergencies.
ER & Behavioral Health Urgent Care
Any hospital Emergency Room (ER) must evaluate a psychiatric emergency. Many areas also have Behavioral Health Urgent Care / Crisis Stabilization Units for walk-in mental-health care.
Inpatient Psychiatric Units
When ongoing care is needed, Inpatient Psychiatric Units (in general or psychiatric hospitals) provide admission and stabilization. The 988 Lifeline can help find the nearest resource.
United Kingdom — how to access urgent care
Emergencies 999
Call 999 for any life-threatening emergency. For urgent but non-life-threatening mental-health support, call NHS 111 and select the mental-health option (available 24/7).
A&E & Psychiatric Liaison
Any hospital A&E (Accident & Emergency) has a Psychiatric Liaison Team available 24/7 to assess and support people in mental-health crisis.
CRHTT crisis teams
The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) provides intensive short-term care at home as an alternative to hospital admission, accessed via NHS 111 or your local crisis line.
Australia — how to access urgent care
Emergencies 000
Call 000 (Triple Zero) for any life-threatening emergency. For 24/7 phone crisis support call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Emergency Department
Any hospital Emergency Department (ED) will assess a psychiatric emergency and can involve the on-call mental-health service.
CATT crisis teams
The Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT) provides urgent community mental-health assessment and short-term treatment at home, accessed via the local Mental Health Line or ED.
Brazil — how to access urgent care
Emergencies 192 · 190
Call 192 (SAMU, mobile medical emergency) for acute psychiatric crises on the spot, or 190 (Polícia Militar) when there is imminent danger to life or physical safety.
CAPS psychosocial centres
The CAPS (Centros de Atenção Psicossocial) are the public mental-health units of the SUS. CAPS III and CAPS i (children/adolescents) are open 24h for walk-in crisis care without an appointment.
UPA 24h & Pronto-Socorro
The UPA 24h (Unidades de Pronto Atendimento) and hospital Pronto-Socorro provide emergency stabilization when a CAPS is not available or the situation is critical.

Emergencies 112
Call 112 (single European emergency number, INEM — Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica) for immediate medical or police assistance in any life-threatening situation.
Psychiatric ER
The Serviços de Urgência of district general hospitals have an on-call psychiatric service (urgência psiquiátrica) for acute crises.
SNS 24 & referral
SNS 24 (808 24 24 24) provides triage and the psychological support line (option 4); it can dispatch INEM or refer you to the appropriate service of the Serviço Nacional de Saúde.
Other Portuguese-speaking countries
Angola
Medical emergencies: 112 / 116 (INEMA ambulances). Police 113, fire 115. For a mental-health crisis, go to the emergency department of a provincial or general hospital.
Mozambique
Medical emergencies: 117 (ambulances) / 112. Police 119. For a mental-health crisis, go to the emergency department of the nearest central or provincial hospital.
Cape Verde
Medical emergencies: 130 (hospitals). Fire 131, police 132. For a mental-health crisis, go to the emergency department of a central hospital (Praia or Mindelo).
In countries without a dedicated 3-digit mental-health line, the public health and emergency network is the main reference. Numbers may vary by region — confirm locally.
